Apatite- is the common name for an apatite group mineral which is a calcium phosphate with other anions present. The name of the type of apatite has a prefix, such as fluor, to indicate the predominant anion which in this case would be fluorine. Chlorapatite and hydroxylapatite indicate the presence of chlorine and hydroxyl anions, respectively. Fluorapatite is the most common variety. Apatite is found in a variety of colors yellow, green and blue.
